USA officially recalls Samsung Galaxy Note 7, replacements due Sep 21
Samsung’s problems are getting worse as the company tries to orchestrate the replacement of 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, which have been found to explode and catch fire.

Samsung had beaten Apple to market with the Note 7 by several weeks, and it was drawing favorable reviews before consumers began reporting problems with the battery overheating, resulting in fires and explosions. Samsung announced on September 2 that it had stopped selling the phone and would replace any that had been sold. Samsung is the only company to feature twice in the recalled cell phones list.
The U.S. government on Thursday moved to recall Samsung’s highest-end smartphone – an unprecedented move for the smartphone industry and one that delivers a severe blow to Samsung in its pursuit to become the world’s premium smartphone maker.
The CPSC’s notice makes it illegal to attempt to sell or resell one of the recalled Note 7 phones.
Some purchasers of the Note 7 say they’re willing to try another Samsung device. “We take seriously our responsibility to address your concerns about safety”.
This recall involved the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone sold before September 15, 2016. This is the first time the recall has been made official – an extremtely important distinction from any voluntary exchange program.
“Samsung has received 92 reports of the batteries overheating in the US, including 26 reports of burns and 55 reports of property damage, including fires in cars and a garage”, the Commission said. The four major US carriers – Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint – immediately stopped selling Note 7s and said customers can visit one of their retail locations to return or exchange them and any accessories they may have bought to go with them.
“We want the recall to be simple and straightforward”, Kaye said. All major U.S carriers are offering refunds or for owners to swap out their phone for a safe, working model. That’s out of 1 million phones that have been recalled in the country.
Anderson reported from NY.

The company last week advised people to stop using the device. “You can argue the phone might be even more important”. This includes the preparation of derivative works of, or the incorporation of such content into other works.
