USA’s Virginia Thrasher Wins First Gold Medal Of Rio Olympics
Thrasher was awarded the first gold of the Games by International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach.

With her non-nonsense style, Thrasher seemed unfazed by her seasoned field and consistently scored in the 10 points target area over the 20 rounds. It was a moment that surely would rattle any just-turned-adult, especially one at an athletic competition where the crowd can be counted by hand.
Thrasher said, “This is beyond my wildest dreams”. Du Li was the favorite among the public, and bets were on her since she won the gold medal in the 2004 Athens Olympics Yi Siling, Chinese as well, took the bronze medal while in the 2012 London Games she won the first place. But liberals were not impressed with the underdog victory for the native of Springfield, Virginia – and the nation – with many rushing to social media to bash the United States and cry-out for more gun control.
Prime-time highlight: USA’s Katie Ledecky gets her first crack at gold in the final of the 400-meter freestyle. Thrasher was a freshman in high school when she first picked up a rifle and began practicing in a local barn, near her home in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. “I didn’t even know the rules or how it worked”.
“I am very proud”, Tommasone said of being the first boxing pro at an Olympics.
Despite her late start in the sport, Thrasher has rose to the top rather quickly. “The night before I got here, I went to the doctor and he told me I had walking pneumonia”, said Sock, who added that he feels “all right” off the court but can’t keep up on it. “Figure skating for me was always a nice outlet”. For me it was something that I loved but it was a hobby.
“The last three games were all very close games, I had chances in all of them, (but)”. That forced Scherer to hold the gun into her shoulder. Hunting was a family hobby. That’s when her grandfather introduced her to shooting.
As reported by The Washington Post, Thrasher was the 45th-best junior air rifle shooter in the United States on Saturday morning.
The precocious 19-year-old from West Virginia University closed out the summer with her biggest surprise yet. In April, she was named in the US team headed to Rio.
“About halfway through when I took the lead, it became clear to me that I was in contention for a medal”.
“I was just trying to shoot the best I could for my 1st Olympics experience coming without any Medal”. “I tried to come down and play, and you could probably hear the cough out there”.

She plans to give her parents and brothers a tour of the athletes village on Sunday before preparing for the three-position competition Thursday. She’ll go back to West Virginia, where she will be a sophomore.
