If that’s the case, could we see the tropical mosquito make its way to Canada or B.C.in the near future?

Florida Department of Health officials confirmed Friday that four people infected with the Zika virus in the Miami-area got it from mosquitoes in the United States. Till now, no place have been tested positive for Zika, except north of downtown Miami. It is peak summer vacation season, so the news of locally transmitted Zika virus cases in Florida is not what travelers want to hear.
The Public Health Agency of Canada also says that in addition to being sexually transmitted, Zika can also spread via contaminated blood.
The FDA previously advised US blood banks to refuse donations from people who recently travelled to areas outside the country that have Zika outbreaks.
When traveling to Zika infected areas, take precautionary steps to protect yourself by wearing long-sleeved shirts and long trousers; stay in places with air conditioning or have window and air screens, or sleep under a mosquito bed net. The transmission is believed to have occurred in early July.
The CDC said pregnant women do not need to postpone their trips to Miami but take extra precautions, including staying indoors, covering exposed skin and using bug spray.
It has since reached epidemic levels throughout South and Central America, southern Mexico and the Caribbean.
“There are a series of factors we’ll have to look at”.
These cases bring the total number of travel-related cases found in Missouri to 12.
Moderate risk is defined as “Countries/territories/areas outside of the main outbreak regions reporting active but sporadic Zika virus transmission in the past 3 months”. However, Zika infection during pregnancy can cause a serious birth defect of the brain called microcephaly and other severe fetal birth defects. There is no vaccine. Here’s how some travelers reacted to the news Zika isn’t just in Brazil.
In information posted on its website Thursday, the Florida Department of Health said it was continuing to investigate the four cases in Miami-Dade and Broward that might not be connected to travel. Under the current situation, there are no plans for limiting travel to the area.
Counties of pregnant women not disclosed. Do not forget to use an EPA-approved insect repellent, wear long-sleeved shirts and long trousers, use or fix screens on windows and doors, use air conditioning when available and remove standing water where mosquitoes can lay eggs, the department says.
The virus generally spreads through from infected mosquitoes, and can also be through sex.

Previous US cases have been connected to people who caught the virus overseas.
