This is an event the USA has owned: the Americans have set the past 10 world records in this relay, dating back to 1984 at the Los Angeles Summer Olympics.

If Chris Walker-Hebborn’s backstroke leg was laboured – handed over to Peaty in sixth place – Britain’s golden boy of the pool was pumped for this race and swam a storming leg.
They clasped hands and stepped up together.
The Parliament will also move a motion when it sits on Monday to congratulate and formally recognise Schooling’s achievement, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Saturday. “I don’t know what to believe, like, whether I actually did it or I’m still preparing for my race”.
In addition to Phelps, we’ll also see newly minted Olympic champion Simone Manuel – who made history this week as the first African-American woman to win a gold medal in swimming. Schooling is now based at the University of Texas.
“I wouldn’t change anything”, he said.
Jamaica’s Usain Bolt celebrates after winning a men’s 100-meter heat during the athletics competitions of the 2016 Summer Olympics at the Olympic stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016.
The Americans regained the lead in the butterfly, as Phelps overtook James Guy, and Adrian held off Duncan Scott in the final straight to give the US their 16th swimming gold medal in Rio. But the 19-year-old American already proved she can soar with astonishing tumbling routines that won the all-around title.
Even with a hugely disappointing performance by Franklin, who didn’t even make it to the final of her two individual events, the Americans still blew everyone away. Bronze went to Canada’s Hilary Caldwell.
Ledecky became the first woman since Debbie Meyer to sweep the three longer freestyle events at the same Olympics.
Pernille Blume of Denmark claimed a breakthrough victory in the women’s 50m freestyle, edging out 100m champion Manuel and Aliaksandra Herasimenia in a tight race as the 2012 victor, Ranomi Kromowidjojo, finished outside the medals.
Some 23 seconds after Ledecky touched the wall, the last of the eight finalists chugged to the end of the grueling race. “800 or above, she would whoop me and tear me to shreds”. Those rates were introduced in the 1994 games, and before that every USA athlete that placed in the top eight of their event received $2,500.
The hullabaloo over the Phelps’s farewell overshadowed the achievement of the women’s 4x100m medley relayers as they captured their country’s 1,000th Olympic medal, according to the United States Olympic committee.
Turns out, it was swimming all along. Now, improbably, he’s back on the top of the podium again. The win gives Manuel two golds and two silvers at the Rio Olympics. Historically, the USA men have won gold in this event every time they’ve entered, dating back to the event’s debut in 1960.

Ms Lee Bee Wah, a member of Parliament, said on Facebook that she was glad she had asked Singapore’s Defense ministry to let Schooling defer his National Service obligations to let him focus on training. “Chris did and wonderful job, so when I dived in I had the composure and control”.
