A Florida woman has died after being forcibly removed from a hospital where she was seeking medical treatment.

Authorities in Florida are searching for answers following the death of a Bristol-area woman who was kicked out of a local hospital for demanding medical attention. She was arrested on disorderly conduct and trespassing charges by Blountstown Police. Attorney Daryl Parks says it is still very early on, but future action on their part could include a suit towards the hospital, the police department or both on behalf of the family: “Something happened in course of them taking her to the auto that alerted them that they needed to go back inside”.

Donar was at the hospital with her niece, and said that a doctor couldn’t detect Dawson’s pulse before she was brought back into the hospital, she told the Tallahassee Democrat. The medical staff maintains they did everything they could to save her. Once they were outside, Dawson collapsed, and the officers removed the handcuffs.

He said Dawson collapsed about 5 a.m. and was pronounced dead at 6:24 a.m. The video does not show the incident, he said, but it did pick up audio.

The NAACP held an emergency meeting on Tuesday to consider the incident.

“If her death was wrongfully determined, then somehow, someway, there needs to be some sort of recompense to the family”, Dale Landry of the Florida NAACP said in a statement.
