After winning women’s pair and men’s four gold on the penultimate day of a weather-affected competition, the Lagoa witnessed more Team GB success during the final session.

The women’s eight team dominated on Saturday morning to win gold, its third consecutive in the Olympics. Despite being a US territory, Puerto Rico has a separate Olympic team than the United States.

Great Britain came back with two goals to beat the United States 2-1 and clinch the top seed in women’s field hockey Pool B.

The official target was 48 medals, one more than Britain’s previous best at an overseas Olympics in Beijing in 2008, but with the team galloping towards 40 that mark seems conservatively low. “I think sets a huge base for them”.

Nafissatou Thiam secured Belgium’s second gold medal of the Games by winning the women’s heptathlon, upsetting defending champion and favorite Jessica Ennis-Hill, reports Xinhua.

“I am so happy, but a little bit exhausted now”, said France’s Houin to WorldRowing.

Team GB captain Kate Richardson-Walsh said: “If you’d offered us top spot at the start of the week I’d have bitten your hand off”, she said.

The U.S. crew of Andrew Campbell and Josh Konieczny, who became the first American crew to reach the gold medal race in this event at the Olympics, rowed an extraordinarily courageous race, running with the leaders until late in the race before fading to fifth place.

She was fifth at the 2013 World Championships, while the eight took gold without her. Logan doesn’t regret it.

But Britain were not to be denied, and they finished in superb style to retain strong medal prospects.

Her boyfriend, Wales rugby union star George North, tweeted: “Words can’t describe how proud I am!” “It wasn’t by any means a flawless row, and I’m sure we had more in the tank”. Romania took the bronze, the United states the gold and Britain the silver.

Eleanor Logan is the only American who has been a part of all three Olympic triumphs during the 11-year dynasty.

“There was no way we were going to let it get away this time”.
