The 2016 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive assessment measuring schools on criteria determined by Victory Media and an independent Academic Advisory Board. The Top 100 Military-Friendly® Employers list is measured on annual hiring of post-9/11 service members, and distinguishes those companies with “exceptionally strong hiring programs and meaningful careers for transitioning service members and spouses”.

Institutions competed for the elite Military Friendly® School title by completing a survey of over 100 questions covering ten categories, including military support on campus, graduation and employment outcomes, and military spouse policies.

This year’s lists highlight more than 1,400 Military Friendly® Schools and 220 Military Friendly® Employers exhibiting best practices in support of military students and employees, respectively.

“The University of Florida has a rich tradition as a place where veterans are welcome”, UF President Kent Fuchs said.

“Excelsior is committed to serving the needs of military and veteran populations”, said Judith Reed, director of veteran services and outreach for Excelsior’s Center for Military Education. “The mission of Military Friendly® is to create maximum professional opportunity for them”, said Chris Hale, a Navy veteran and Chairman and Co-Founder of Victory Media. “Our Military Friendly Employers are moving the needle beyond answering “why hire military”-they are truly aligning their jobs and recruiting efforts with Military Friendly educators to translate military competencies into civilian jobs”. Survey responses were scored against benchmarks in these key indicators of success.

“Faulkner is proud to serve our veterans, and we’re thrilled to receive this designation”. In addition, data was independently tested by professional services firm Ernst & Young based on weightings and methodology established by Victory Media with guidance from an independent advisory board of higher education and recruiting professionals. The Career Development Center assists student veterans with career planning and veteran’s preference programs.

NICC provides support to students through Student Veterans Association groups at the Calmar and Peosta campuses and, at the Calmar campus, students and staff have also developed the Vet2Vet Mentoring Program to provide additional support for veterans in their adjustment to civilian and college life.
