Usain Bolt not concerned about his fitness for world championships

The world’s fastest man will continue his recovery at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games in London on Friday as he continues his build-up to China.

“When the championship comes, if anyone knows anything about me, I will show up”.

The 32-year-old has not been accused of any wrong-doing, while Salazar himself has strongly denied the allegations. Now it takes time for me to get going and I need a lot more races. “So for me, I’m sorry for Mo as he’s in the papers every day and they are trying to tear him down”, Bolt told BBC Sport.

“I’ve started eating healthy”.

Nonetheless, the reports are positive and though it matches the tune heard ahead of the New York Diamond League, where Bolt posted a modest 20.29 in the 200m, those who should know seem extremely comfortable with the sprinter’s readiness heading to tomorrow’s test.

Bolt and Farah are good friends – they memorably posed on the podium at London 2012 performing one another’s signature poses – and share an agent in Ricky Simms.

“You learn not to compete too hard in training”. I’ve relayed messages to Ricky, I’ve talked to Ricky to see where his head space is at. “I’m not saying it’s right, but it happened when I was just coming into the sport”.

And Bolt can understand his decision. He’s won so many titles but you can’t be thinking about that when you line up next to him.

And when asked by ITV’s Good Morning Britain if he put all the accusations to one side, he said: “For sure, yes”.

“I noticed I was getting older last season because I was always injured”.

“But at the same time I’ve answered everything”. I really enjoyed running there during the Olympics. Beijing is a month away, I am not really anxious about that, I try and take it a step at at time.

Bolt, who has been struggling with a pelvic injury but is slated to compete at the Diamond League meet in London on Friday, made no mention in the programme about next month’s world championships in Beijing. He is up against the best of British in the likes of Chijindu Ujah, James Dasaolu and Richard Kilty.

Farah has pledged his allegiance to Salazar, who is being investigated by both USADA and UK Anti-Doping over allegations that he has violated doping rules and will run the 3,000m, also on Friday. Expect Johnson-Thompson to come out on top, though.

But he did talk about what will be his third Olympic Games, in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, insisting he felt no pressure from the weight of expectation of a public who have seen him win an unprecedented double-treble gold haul. He has been troubled by injury since then, though, and will be looking for revenge on Nijel Amos of Botswana, who beat him to the Commonwealth crown in Glasgow previous year. A year later, he broke both those records at the world championships in Berlin.
