The area was cleared by police last night following reports of “banging” at Terminal 8 in NY.
The Port Authority said that a terminal at Kennedy Airport was “evacuated out of an abundance of caution” after reports of shots fired at the Queens airport Sunday night.
Terminals 1 and 8 were evacuated after the reports first came in, the PA said. Police activity also closed the Van Wyck Expressway near the airport.
According to the flight tracking company, FlightAware, all inbound flights were held at their origin until 11:30 p.m.
In a statement, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey said a preliminary investigation “does not indicate shots were fired at JFK”.
PAPD added that there is “substantial” police presence – including the NYPD – and both JFK and La Guardia aiports.
No one was injured during the airport scare.
