Usain Bolt: ‘This is the last Olympics for sure’

Usain Bolt indulged a Norwegian free-style rapper and strutted his stuff alongside scantily-clad samba dancers as the biggest name in athletics geared up for his final Olympics in Rio. His sponsor’s, Puma, had chosen the venue – a large theatre – well.

It was a reminder of just what athletics will lose when Bolt walks away from the sport next year after the World Championships in London.

“I’ve done enough. I’ve proven myself over and over again, this is the last one”.

“I never pick out one person”, he said. “We have to go through the rough times before we get to the good times”.

“I’m looking for a full stadium here”.

Usain Bolt believes he will retire from track and field with the scandal-tainted sport heading in the right direction as he prepares for his final Olympic campaign in Rio. De Grasse’s fastest time this year was in July in Edmonton with a 9.99. “In life nothing is guaranteed“, he replied. “I don’t worry about that”. Instead of gathering at the Olympic Park media venue, which was good enough for Serena Williams, the US men’s basketball team and the president of the International Olympic Committee, Jamaica rented out a gleaming museum. I go out and compete and wow the crowd. “In a few years it will be fine, I personally think”.

His main adversary Justin Gatlin, his arch rival, was not given a name-check.

Bolt will defend his 100m crown on Saturday and Sunday before following that up with the 200m as he targets history.

For the fastest man in the world, even an ordinary press conference becomes extraordinary. For now though his mind is on possibly one day going under 19 seconds in the 200m.

“I haven’t gotten around much”, he revealed later. “For some reason, when I get to the 200m, I’m always a little bit nervous”. Bolt holds the record at 19.19 seconds, and a sub-19-second race would add a memorable exclamation point to his Olympic career. Then it will be like, ‘finally, ‘ you know what I mean?

He said: “It’s not been the flawless season but I’m better than previous year and got more races in”.

“We are here as a Jamaican team and we can’t see anyone else but Jamaica”, said Powell when asked who is the biggest threat to Bolt and Jamaica.

One man who will be looking to spoil Bolt’s samba party in Rio this summer is USA sprinter Justin Gatlin.

Jamaica’s Usain Bolt announced earlier this week that the Rio Olympics 2016 is going to be his last Olympic games. “But I’ve been training well”. “I like to entertain, because that’s what people come out and see”, said the sprinter.
