Usain Bolt Wins Third Consecutive 200M Olympic Gold

Usain Bolt dominated the field to claim his eighth Olympic title with victory in the 200 meters in Rio, but the world’s fastest man wasn’t entirely satisfied with his performance.

Bolt completed his race in 19.78 seconds, not a record but very good considering it was a damp track.

“This is why I said this is my last Olympics – I can’t prove anything else”, said Bolt.

Jamaica’s Yohan Blake, Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell and Nickel Ashmeade celebrate after they won the men’s 4x100m relay final. “I never come to a championship unless I know I’m prepared”.

“The fact that I came here and executed what I wanted is a brilliant feeling”. De Grasse lived up to his potential and won the silver. My legs wouldn’t respond in the final. “I’m getting old”, he added.

“I wasn’t happy with the time when I crossed the line, but I’m excited I got the medal, that’s the key thing”.

It was a fantastic day for the United States in athletics, as Ashton Eaton became only the second man to successfully defend the Olympic decathlon title, Ryan Crouser triumphed in the shot put, and the men’s and women’s 400-metre hurdles were won by Kerron Clement and Dalilah Muhammad, respectively.

Rio de Janeiro: Usain Bolt again stole the show, but there was drama aplenty in the race for third behind the Jamaican and Canada’s Andre De Grasse in the 200m final on Thursday night.

Although he didn’t entirely rule it out, it appears the Jamaican will stick to his word.

“I got out horribly”, said Merritt, the only American in the 200m final (Gatlin was ninth in the semis and said he had an ankle injury).

The situation went from bad to worse, though, when they were disqualified along with Trinidad and Tobago.

In June 2015, Bolt ran a sluggish 200m at a meet in NY, site of his first world record in 2008. Bolt aims to win and will leave behind an unforgettable legacy.

Bolt’s sustained success has marked him down as one of the finest ever Olympians.
