Use Facebook ‘likes’ to fight terror, Sheryl Sandberg says
We do everything we can to take all of it down.

Facebook wants everyone to “like” Isis posts in a bid to destroy them in the digital war.
The U.S.-based group established its “Initiative for Civil Courage Online” in Berlin, vowing over 1 million euros (1 million pounds) to support non-governmental organisations in their attempts to counter racist and xenophobic posts.
The OCCI pulls together the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence (ICSR), the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) and the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, working in partnership with Facebook.
The social network’s chief operating officer says a “like attack” in Germany may provide inspiration for targeting IS online. Facebook now operates a total banning policy on anything that promotes terrorism but with an extensive network of IS recruiters and sympathisers relentlessly creating new accounts as one is suspended, it believes “the best antidote to bad speech is good speech”.
“Rather than scream in protest, they got 100,000 people to “like” the page who did not like it, and put messages of tolerance on the page”, she continued. The NPD is the neo-Nazi party. This helped transform a page full of hatred and intolerance into one with tolerance and messages of hope.
“The best thing to speak against recruitment by Isis are the voices of people who were recruited by ISIS, understand what the true experience is, have escaped and have come back to tell the truth”.
This “counter speech” idea first outlined earlier this week could be used to fight ISIS, Sandberg explained, with the company likely working on a new reporting feature that enables people to flag friends if they think they are at risk of radicalization.
