USOC Optimistic Los Angeles Will Did for 2024 Olympics
The USOC made the announcement following a board meeting in Colorado.

The previous 2024 bid from Boston was dropped July 27, and the USOC said that day it still intended to bid for the 2024 Olympics with a different city.
In a statement Wednesday, Garcetti said the city has had “very positive discussions” with the USOC over the past week. A Los Angeles bid, however, could spell trouble for other American cities hoping to bid for the Olympics. He mentioned that he had talked with LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and he indicated that he understands that and it would be a serious challenge if a city wasn’t going to agree to sign.
The L.A. Memorial Coliseum, built for the 1932 Olympics and used again as the host stadium in 1984, could be the site of a third Olympics as Los Angeles is expected to officially become a candidate to host the 2024 Summer Games. A recent USOC poll showed 81% support among greater Los Angeles residents. They have incredibly strong public support.
“That demonstrates a passion for the Olympic Games” in Los Angeles, Blackmun said of the poll. “We would love to have this wrapped up by the end of August and that is still our goal”.
The USOC sentiment Wednesday begs the question: why did it shun Los Angeles the first time?
Los Angeles was seen as the only alternative after Boston’s withdrawal because of its name recognition, plentiful sports facilities and a lack of political opposition to the idea. He emphasized that they have all sent in letters of support.
Williams said a member of his swimming team was able to beat his best record by 40 seconds, “because he was in the atmosphere of competition”.
Blackmun reiterated, “You can’t underestimate the importance of the experience”. “They’ve got strong venues”. “I think we benefit from it economically”.
The USOC also spoke with officials from San Francisco and Washington, D.C., as well as other cities since pulling the plug on Boston. But there’s still a chance the Games could be held in the United States.
“We want to address that”. “We are looking at it from a standpoint of not wanting to wait another four years before bidding”.
Agent Casey Wasserman is also a player in a bid from Los Angeles, which would join Rome, Paris, Budapest and Hamburg, Germany, in the contest.

Salt Lake City originally intended to bid for the 2022 games, but couldn’t because the USOC instead decided to prepare bids for 2024 and 2026.
