USWNT’s Rapinoe kneels during national anthem

They have the freedom to publicly and nationally disrespect our country, receive free publicity for it and speak about why they acted the way they did.

Linebacker Danny Trevathan said then that, “I believe if you want to do it, you should do it -but you have to know what you stand for and give it what you got”. “I love people. That’s why I’m doing this”. Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry said he applauds Kaepernick for taking a stand.

Many people cite his ingratitude for the mere right to protest in such a way, granted by the first amendment, protected by the very flag that so many American service men and women bravely fought to protect.

KTVU also had the opportunity Wednesday night to hear from 49er Hall of Famer Jerry Rice.

“This is one more pillar that’s vitally important in our locker room and in our communities”, he said.

Following his anthem protest, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick got tied to a rumor that his girlfriend, Hot 97 radio host Nessa Diab, converted him to Islam.

Since Colin Kaepernick’s protest of the mistreatment of Black Americans last month, his jersey sales have skyrocketed to number one.

Kaepernick faced backlash online from critics who said he was disrespecting the USA and its military by not standing during the national anthem. “It’s sad that we’ve gotten off the real topic, that we’re all debating, ‘What did you think of this person’s comment?”

If the Seattle Seahawks do protest the national anthem at their first regular season game, it will be on 9/11, a point that was not lost on some people on social media.

Colin Kaepernick’s push to build a movement against social injustice is picking up more steam. He always said America was an incredible nation. “And what they’ve done, just personally, just watching my sister go off to Iraq and Afghanistan, I know what they’re risking for us”.

He declined to identify who he has met with. “That’s why I want to make sure we’re focusing on the issues as opposed to the form of protest”.

Marshall’s protest came before the first National Football League game of the 2016 season, a rematch of the Super Bowl from a season ago, won by the Broncos. The Santa Clara police chief has vowed to continue providing a safe environment at San Francisco home games after the union representing his officers threatened to boycott policing the stadium if the 49ers don’t discipline Kaepernick for criticizing police and refusing to stand during the national anthem.

In the age of social media, where ideas run rampant and nearly everything offends someone, it’s no surprise that Kaepernick has received a healthy amount of backlash for his actions.

“I have seen that”, he said.
