UT’s Strong short on wins, but not on time

Strong insisted Monday that Texas’ problems in last-minute losses the last two weeks are self-inflicted and fixable, and there is still hope on the horizon.

I’m kidding, Texas fans.

“None of them (mistakes) in our opinion were egregious”, Anderson said. And though it’s no sure thing, as long as Coach Strong and his staff can stay the course, Texas football has the potential to reach that level that fans have been starved for since 2009. Though out-played, Texas was in position to win what would have been an uplifting Big 12 opener.

Strong admitted after the game that he shouldn’t have gotten the call and lost his composure, but it felt understandable given the previous calls. He was arguing a defensive holding penalty on nose tackle Poona Ford, who had just been driven 5 yards backward by two Oklahoma State blockers. “Officials officiate and coaches coach and we’ve just got to do a better job”, Strong said. I take back my joke about the Longhorns.

Texas was still in a tie ballgame at that point.

Michael Dickson, the freshman punter for Texas, was expected to do what should be routine for him. In particular, the Longhorns were flagged for three straight penalties that put the Cowboys in range to kick a tying field goal in the final two minutes. Not even drawing arguably the game-deciding penalty that dropped the Texas Longhorns 1-3 this season and 7-10 in his tenure in Austin.

“It’s too early to give up”.

Texas wide receiver Armanti Foreman sits on the field after…

“You make a big play and you have to see if there was a flag”, Johnson said. From what we have managed learn about these two games is that the Longhorns’ special teams unit has managed to botch what should be easy plays.

When watching preseason National Football League games, it’s common for scouts, media, and analysts to focus on the individual performances of players rather than the overall outcome of the game to get a better idea of what type of players a team has to work with moving forward.

Ranking the Horned Frogs offense as a Top-five unit in all of division one football is fair and ranking their defense in the lower half of the Big Boy League is accurate, as well. The Longhorns opened the week as a three-touchdown underdog to TCU.
