Utah defeats Oregon State 27-12

GOOD VS BAD: Utah quarterback Travis Wilson has been inconsistent throughout his career. The offense did not turn the ball over during the game. “It feels good to get a win”. “We’d all like to have a few things back obviously”. We remained first place in the Pac-12. “(Going) 7-1 was the objective coming into tonight, and that’s the only thing we’re concerned about”. They just didn’t have the offense to do much against a talented Utah squad. Utah Utes rank at 92 for 162.0 road rushing yards where as Oregon State Beavers rank at 89 for allowing 225.0 rushing yards at home. Gionni Paul leads the Utes with 67 tackles, Marcus Williams has four interceptions and Pita Taumoepenu has six sacks. He caught three passes for 25 yards as well. Defense end Hunter Dimick did not play in the game for Utah though. “Because I think everyone in the country that is in the playoff picture is going to be tuned into that and find out where they’re slotted'”. He started out 9-of-10 and finished 14-of-17. He ranks among Utah’s all-time leaders in pass attempts (944), touchdown passes (51), pass completions (582) and passing yards (6,738). And overall, that was by far the best command on the most complex defensive scheme we’ve had so far this year.

“We are continuing to make strides”, Mitchell said.

With Seth Collins out, Mitchell took on the full role at quarterback for the first time and responded with a solid performance, passing for 204 yards and a touchdown.

Utah jumped out to a 14-0 lead after its first two possessions of the game and cruised from there. He’s amassed 890 pass yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions while also churning out 536 rush yards and another five scores. Utah gained 372 total yards to 312 for the Beavers. The first time was in 2003 when Andersen was the head coach at Southern Utah. “There was nothing different”, about Oregon State’s approach.

After an Oregon State punt, the Utes took over at their 10 and marched 90 yards in five plays. Devontae Booker capped Utah’s opening drive with a short one yard touchdown run. However, Andy Phillips nailed a 49-yard field goal at the beginning of the fourth quarter to go up 17-6. The 6-foot-7 younger Tinkle averaged 24.8 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists as a senior last season at Hellgate High School in Missoula, Montana. The score was set up by a 75-yard reception from Jordan Villamin, but they failed to convert the two-point conversion.
