Mormon church officials say three missionaries from Utah were seriously injured in the Brussels airport attack. The other missionary had already safely passed through airport security when the bombs were detonated.

The missionaries were escorting 20-year-old Fanny Rachel Clain of Montélimar, France, to the airport for a flight to the United States, where she was being placed in a mission assignment in OH, according to the church’s statement. All three were hospitalized, but the extent of their injuries and their current conditions were not immediately known.

A statement from Gov. Gary Herbert on Tuesday offered support to the families of 66-year-old Richard Norby, 20-year-old Joseph Empey and 19-year-old Mason Wells.

Officials say two explosions occurred at Brussels’ worldwide airport Tuesday morning, which were followed by a single explosion at Maalbeek metro station. The missionaries, all of whom are also from Utah, are Richard Norby, 66; Joseph Empey, 20, and Mason Wells, 19.

Explosions at the airport and a subway station killed at least 31 people and wounded dozens.

People react as they walk away from Brussels airport after explosions rocked the facility in Brussels, Belgium Tuesday March 22, 2016. The embassy noted Tuesday that with the threat rating in Brussels at its highest alert, attacks can take place with little or no notice.
