Butler-Byrd, who transferred to Utah from Los Angeles Harbor College past year, remains on scholarship but will not participate in team activities while he’s suspended. Butler-Byrd was expected to be a starting slot receiver on an offense that is lacking experience and depth at that position.

The Utes open training camp Thursday, four weeks before their first game September 1st against Southern Utah. His only reception was a 54-yard touchdown pass. Kyle Fulks is listed behind Bulter-Byrd on the preseason depth chart. Butler-Byrd moved there full-time after coming to Salt Lake City as both a receiver and defensive back.

The university has not released details on what led to the suspension or when Butler-Byrd may rejoin team activities.
