Utd’s Shaw returning home after broken leg

The injury occurred when PSV Eindhoven’s Hector Moreno tackled his opponent in the first half of United’s 2-1 defeat in Holland.

They say Louis van Gaal will asses how United manage without Shaw in the next three months before making a final decision on whether to push through a deal. “He sounds very strong, which was awesome for me – a big surprise”. But he knows also that it’s a long way he has to come.

“He will have a long period of rehabilitation and he has a long way to go”. “We sent people to the Netherlands to take care of the travelling when he’s coming back. Maybe tomorrow”, the United manager said.

“In (Daley) Blind, (Marcos) Rojo and (Ashley) Young, we have good replacements”.

Rooney missed United’s victory over Liverpool last weekend with a hamstring injury, but looks certain to return against a Southampton side who van Gaal expects, like defending champions Chelsea, to improve drastically as the season progresses.

Van Gaal’s counterpart, Phillip Cocu said it was not the intention of Moreno to injury Shaw during the tackle. He won’t play in the group stage, I don’t think. It’s a big loss also for the team.

The chances of Shaw playing again before the season’s end are still slim, something that would at least enable United to monitor the player over next summer instead of losing him to the European Championships with England.

He said: “I have to admit he was strong and firm”.

As a former Ajax coach and player, Van Gaal would have expected a hostile reception at the Philips Stadion.

‘You can count all the goals he’s made.

He added: “Right now I would like to let him be calm and be easy with family, it’s a hard time but when I can I will try to make contact with him“. “You can judge for yourself when I say it is a penalty and a red card I am a bad loser every word is interpreted in the wrong way”, the manager said.

When asked about the legality of his challenge on Shaw, Mexico global Moreno remained adamant he had done nothing wrong.
