Uzbekistan Airways set to weigh PASSENGERS along with hand luggage in new
Once they get to their departure gate at the airport, passengers will get on a “special weighing machine” along with their carry-on baggage so airline employees can check what the total weight of the flight will be.

In a statement the airline said: “Please be informed that Uzbekistan Airways airline is carrying out the procedure of pre-flight weighing in order to determine the average weight of passengers with hand luggage”.
Metro (UK) reported that Samoa Air – which tends to use smaller aircrafts -began charging passengers by weight in 2012.
Uzbekistan Airways is taking it to the next level by weighing all passengers at the departure gate.
The airline says the numbers will remain confidential and will only be categorized as man, woman or child – names will not be recorded.
It appears that the procedure is strictly for research purposes and will aid the global Air Transport Association (IATA) in ensuring flight safety.
“We will appreciate your assistance and thank you in advance for the help in the solution of our common task of flight safety!”, the airline adds in language seemingly directed at passengers.
Uzbekistan Airways is cracking down on excess baggage.
An airline has unveiled plans to weigh passengers before boarding in a new safety measure.
Uzbekistan Airways hasn’t responded to CNN’s request for clarification on the new guidelines and whether overweight passengers will be penalized.
The full confidentiality of results is guaranteed.
In 2012, Samoa Air made global headlines by introducing a pay-as-you-weigh fare structure, which is still in place today.

In a 2013 interview, Samoa Air CEO Chris Langton told The Associated Press that its “planes are run by weight and not by seat, and travelers should be educated on this important issue”.
