Uzo Aduba, Kevin Spacey Among Nominees for 22nd ANNUAL SAG AWARDS
Recognition for the Best Cast put in dispute the performers of the films Beasts of No Nation (Netflix), The Big Short (Paramount), Spotlight (Open Road), Straight Outta Compton (Universal) and Trumbo (Bleecker Street).

“Steve Jobs” stars Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet also land a nod each for best actor and best supporting actress respectively and so do “The Danish Girl” pair Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander.
The film with the largest number of nominations – three – in the five major film categories has been dismissed by most self-proclaimed Oscar experts: That’s the blacklist drama “Trumbo”, which drew nods for best ensemble (SAG’s rough equivalent of best picture), best actor (Bryan Cranston) and best supporting actress (Helen Mirren).
Among the women for best actress, Cate Blanchett was nominated in Carol, Brie Larson for Room, Saoirse Ronan for Brooklyn and Sarah Silverman for I Smile Back.
The film’s star Bryan Cranston – of “Breaking Bad” fame – is up for an award for his portrayal of Trumbo, and co-star Helen Mirren was also tapped for a best supporting actress prize for her role as conservative gossip columnist Hedda Hopper.
Supporting male finalists include Christian Bale (The Big Short),Idris Elba, Beasts of No Nation, Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies), Michael Shannon (99 Homes) and Jacob Tremblay (Room). Over the past three years, 11 of 12 SAG winners proceeded to win the Academy Award (Tommy Lee Jones in Lincoln is the only miss.) All three ensemble cast winners later claimed the best pitcure Oscar.
The cast of “Orange is the New Black“, which films at the abandoned Rockland Children’s Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, is nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
Winners will be announced when the SAG Awards air on Saturday, January 30, 2016. Those networks are divisions of Time Warner, as is CNN.
The award season has started with announcing of nominess for the forthcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAGs) by Anna Faris and Anthony Mackie. But hey, at least Key & Peele has made its first appearance on the list of SAG nominees.
On the other hand, the lead actress category was relatively predictable – minus Jennifer Lawrence, who was not nominated for her role in “Joy”. Thursday’s Golden Globe nominations could bring more attention to the issue.
Overall, it was shown more diversity among candidates of the TV than the movies, with nominations for Uzo Aduba in Orange is the New Black and Viola Davis in How to Get Away with Murder.
Leonardo DiCaprio got a best actor nomination for his performance in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s “The Revenant“.
She will go up against Kristen Wiig (The Spoils Before Dying), Susan Sarandon (The Secret Life Of Marilyn Monroe), Christina Ricci (The Lizzie Borden Chronicles) and Queen Latifah (Bessie).
