I cried with Uzo Aduba, when she accepted her second Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama in Orange Is the New Black – an accomplishment that hasn’t happened since 1993.
Host Andy Samberg opened the show with a joke referencing the possible record saying it confirmed his theory that, “Uzo Aduba is the new Ed Asner”.
Watch her speech below… “I miss you guys so much”, he told the crowd of his friends and colleagues. But for the night, she’ll party with her Orange Is the New Black co-stars. When she spoke to her sister watching from the crowd and thanked her for her friendship, it was a moment that resonated with anyone who’s ever felt overwhelming love and pride in a sibling. “Thank you for creating a platform”.
After a list of more thank-yous, the actress concluded with, “I love you guys and I’m so thankful to stand beside a set of artists who are so brilliant”. “What can I say? I don’t know what’s happening; I’m just drawn to it”. “And you need to stop trying”. “And I sat on the train in tears”. Then, she said, fate intervened. “For season one, we see her without any background information for where she comes from”.

She beat out Joanne Froggatt (Downton Abbey), Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Christine Baranski (The Good Wife) and Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) for the win. The “Orange is the New Black” star did not forget to thank her sister for her support.
