Madrid, July 22 (IANS) Spanish La Liga outfit Valencia have completed the signing of Australian global goalkeeper Matthew Ryan on a six-year contract.
The 23-year-old custodian has been strongly linked with Liverpool, but has moved to Spain to continue his career, landing at the Mestalla.
“Of course, I was following Valencia CF in La Liga last season”.
“(I am) very happy and excited to be joining a club as big as Valencia”, he told the club’s official website. “I know it’s a very important institution in world football and this move is a big step in my career”, Ryan is quoted as saying.
However, Chan said Ryan – who played 58 times for Bruges last season as they finished second in their league race – fitted the bill.
Ryan enjoyed two productive years at Belgian Pro League side Club Brugge, in a tenure which saw him win the Belgian Cup as well as the Asian Cup with the Socceroos.
It means he will be charged with stopping living football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on a regular basis, especially given first-choice gloveman and Brazilian global Diego Alves is sidelined until next year with a knee injury.

“It has not been an easy task looking for a Champions League-level goalkeeper”, she said. “Mathew may be young but he is ambitious and a player with huge potential”.
