Valve provides CAD geometry files for the Steam Controller
What’s more is that the company is encouraging users to share their designs with the community.

Over on the Steam Community website, Valve has released the detailed CAD drawings for the Steam Controller, and is opening it out under Creative Commons licensing.
The 800MB zip file contains a number of eDrawings files that should give you everything you need to start building your own accessories or replacement parts.
Valve released a set of files showing users how to build or modify their own version of the Steam Controller on Thursday.
It’s unclear how open Valve are to truly radical redesigns, but it’d certainly be nice to see modded Steam Controllers pop up with traditional analog sticks, instead of those somewhat awkward trackpads.
Innovative as it may be, the Steam Controller is not flawless.
To kick off the sharing of alternate designs, we are releasing a couple variants of the Battery Door that allow you to carry your USB wireless receiver with you.

If you’re feeling creative, have a Steam Controller, and you have access to a 3D printer, head on over and check it out. It begs the question, should we see Valve it or not take the same approach with the Vive VR headset its making in collaboration with HTC, If so it could make the VR space a lot more entertaining and interesting that it already launched tools and devices. It feels off in your hands, the triggers are finicky, and it looks like Darth Vader…or an owl.
