Van Gaal admits United failure
Van Gaal returned to United’s training ground on Tuesday as they begin preparations for Friday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie against Derby County.

But with boos ringing out around Old Trafford it seems the fans’ patience is finally beginning to fade.
Reports suggest Van Gaal could leave the club at the end of the season should the situation not improve and he has now admitted that trying to meet the demands of the Old Trafford faithful is proving hard.
“You can not say it is that aspect or that aspect, because there are different aspects that play a role and we are not very lucky with our injuries”, he said.
But reports are coming in that, after the loss to Southampton, the Carrington training in Manchester was empty the day after a match for the first time under Louis van Gaal.
It was reported in some corners that the Dutchman offered to quit his position at Old Trafford after talking with Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward at the weekend. “They have – or they had – great expectations of me and I can not fulfill them”.
Yet Van Gaal argued that given he has spent £250m-plus United should be better.
The Dutchman did tender his resignation during the Reds’ dismal December when they were knocked out of the Champions League and lost three Premier League matches on the trot.
Manchester United have struggled with their form this season, with the squad having been frequently criticised for their lacklustre performances.
Woodward appointed Van Gaal after sacking David Moyes in 2014.
Jose Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes has responded to the claims that the Portuguese manager wrote a six-page letter to Manchester United regarding the manager’s job.

While there is nothing out of the ordinary in Van Gaal returning home for such an occasion, it comes at an awkward time given the doubt surrounding his future.
