Van Gaal baffled by fans’ criticism of dour United
“They don’t like the style of play from Manchester United, but everyone knows in advance that all the teams of Louis van Gaal is playing like that”, he added.

In the Mail, Louis van Gaal claims that he can not understand why United fans booed off his awful side against West Ham, claiming they were the most attacking side.
The Dutchman does not believe that United have the strength in depth to go all the way in the competition.
United are much improved this season under Van Gaal despite lacking attacking inspiration, but still find themselves in the Premier League title mix.
Manchester United are hit by two new injuries as midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and defender Paddy McNair picked up injuries during their 0-0 draw against West Ham United at Old Trafford on Saturday. We have to win in Wolfsburg – we need to score also in Wolfsburg to survive in the Champions League.
More worrying for United fans, perhaps, will be the way in which the goals have now dried up for Anthony Martial.
United have already spent £250million on players since Van Gaal took over in 2015, topped by £60m for Angel di Maria, who has since left, from Real Madrid and Anthony Martial, who cost £36m. Van Gaal said to BBC Radio Manchester. The players know that.
The Hammers boss, who has seen his team beat Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool away from home this season, said: “We could have or should have been in front”.
“[If I understand the fans’ frustration?] Yes and no, because they can see that we fought until the end”.

They are at present sitting second in Group B and have so far not secured a place in the last 16. Van Gaal says he will have someone on the bench relating the score from Holland to him during the game, yet unless Moscow race to a three-goal lead, it is probably best to assume that PSV will win and United will have to do likewise. Equally, you can’t lose games without conceding. Our job is to deliver by winning games. Only a Sevilla win against the leaders would allow City a route back to the top.
