Van Gaal however insists that it is not guaranteed that the recovered players will walk straight into Wednesday’s starting line up. “Fellaini can play. So that’s great news, I think”.

“It is always the same procedure. I don’t think he left PSV too early”, the youth coach told BBC Sport.

According to the Daily Mail, Martial (foot) and Wayne Rooney (illness) were both back with the team during training at Carrington on Tuesday morning.

Van Gaal has previously said that captain Rooney has “privileges” when it comes to selection and vowed to restore those privileges – but only if the 30-year-old is in the right shape to begin games.

“Fellaini, Martial and Rooney have shown on the training ground their fitness”.

The stalemate at Old Trafford leaves United needing a win in Wolfsburg next month to be sure of progressing to the knockout phase.

PSV’S SUPPORTERS HAVEN’T forgotten about Luke Shaw’s double leg break in Eindhoven in September.

Phillip Cocu wants United fans to avoid booing the Mexican.

“I live in Shanghai and if you asked me to compare it to London, I honestly couldn’t say which was better”.

Adding some wingers with the ability to use their blistering pace to get down the line, and subsequently craft a delicious cross may be the final piece in the jigsaw that sends United back to the summit of the game.

“He is a fantastic player”. However, they ran out of ingenuity and as boos rang out at full time, it was clear the United faithful was, once again, unhappy with their teams attacking output.
