Van Gaal defiant on Man Utd future: I will not resign
“When the players are fighting for me, I stay”, Van Gaal said, “because that is the most important thing and you have seen that today”.

Rooney volleyed over the bar late on as United had to settle for another 0-0, ending a three-game losing run in the league.
Louis van Gaal has insisted he will not resign from Manchester United and is determined to see out his contract with the club. You never know in football but I have full confidence in the board. It was a case of the beleaguered hosts against the embattled champions, and Van Gaal gave a defiant wave to United fans as he took his place in the dug-out.
“I go with AZ and they want to keep me and the players were coming to my house and the directors are coming to my house [to ask him to stay]”.
As well as results, supporters have vented their anger at United’s style of play, particularly a lack of attacking threat. The full-backs overlapped the wingers, the forwards ran at Chelsea’s defence with objective and the tempo was much higher.
“The players are fighting for me”.
Van Gaal has had to contend with relentless speculation about his future during the Christmas period, with some reports claiming that sacked Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho could take charge at Old Trafford should the Dutchman be sacked.
“It’s not an interesting subject, I can not have any influence on that”, the 64-year-old coach said.
“When the players can give such a performance with this pressure, there is not any reason to resign.”
United may have been the better side, but Chelsea had their chances too.
While goalkeepers David De Gea and Thibaut Courtois both shone, making a string of sublime saves each to ensure the struggling sides remained level and preserved their clean sheets.
“We know that if we can improve on the first part of the season, by scoring more goals and getting back to the strong defensive performances we had before the last few games, then anything can happen”.

“For us it was a good game as well because Chelsea are a very good team”.
