Van Gaal dismisses Mourinho reports

Manchester United star Ander Herrera believes it would be “unfair” to sack Louis van Gaal while the club can still win the Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup this season.

Louis van Gaal is being encircled by Chelsea managers past and present.

According to BBC Sport, Manchester United have opened talks with Jose Mourinho’s representatives over a move to take the reins at Old Trafford.

His style of play, as well as disappointing results have seen growing calls for him to leave the club one year before his contract expires.

United still have five players out injured for the trip to face 13th placed Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with Bastian Schweinsteiger, Ashley Young, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia.

The main reservation that die hard fans of Manchester United are likely to have against Jose Mourinho is that he is often understood to be a defensive manager.

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has praised the managerial qualities of former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho after insisting he isn’t a negative coach.

Mourinho won the Premier League title three times with Chelsea and has achieved success wherever he has managed, including Porto, Real Madrid and Inter Milan.

However, no agreement has been reached between Mourinho and United, with the club making no comment. Not for Manchester United and not for the other teams. Michael Carrick said that and I had the same feeling.

He said: “I have already played Mata in the same role. So then I think our league [challenge] shall start again”, Van Gaal said at his pre-match press conference. Maybe if you compare him with Paco Jemez [Rayo Vallecano manager, who is famous in Spain for his offensive style] he is but not in the essence.

Van Gaal added: “The aim here is still the same – to qualify for the Champions League and to finish one step higher than a year ago”.

All this suggests that Mourinho could indeed find himself at Old Trafford next season if under-pressure Van Gaal departs United as anticipated.
