Van Gaal eyeing new strikers to bolster flagging Man Utd
Louis van Gaal oversaw a first Manchester United win in nine games and then hailed Wayne Rooney’s “beautiful” match-winner as a “turning point” for the season. While it’s unlikely that LVG will stick around for two decades, this Rooney goal might just have saved Van Gaal’s job.

Angel Rangel was subsequently booked when he was judged to have dived in the box as he chased the rebound, but Sigurdsson – scorer of the victor at Old Trafford last season – netted the leveller from a Modou Barrow cross.
Again Young was involved in a telling capacity as his cross was perfectly delivered for Martial, who had drifted into a more central position, to score with a powerful downward header from eight yards which bounced up and past Lukasz Fabianski to give the young Frenchman his eighth goal of the season.
But the breakthrough came two minutes into the second half when the impressive Ashley Young supplied the cross for Anthony Martial to score his eighth United goal.
“We want to stick at the top end of the table and when you dominate games you need to win them”, the defender added.
Utd manager Louis Van Gaal is under sustained pressure over the way his side are failing to play attacking football and also their early exit from the Champions League group stages. Obviously they will be looking for the win to get on a run, as we are on Saturday.
The Manchester United boss believes his team played in a risky system and feels the only difference from the other matches today was that they finished off their chances when they were presented with them.
“I hope it is a fantastic starting point for the team, ” Van Gaal said.
“We’ve rolled our sleeves up and worked hard on the training field and had to make sure that we regrouped”.
“All around the pitch, we had a lot of joy”.
“I thought against Chelsea it was a bit looser and the players maybe took some of the initiative themselves”. “I felt comfortable down the right” and “I just wanted to keep attacking the full-back”.
He showed his class. It was a great touch and finish.
