Van Gaal happy with ‘very risky’ Man United
City scored twice in the final eight minutes in coming from behind to beat Watford 2-1, clinching a first away win since September.

Louis van Gaal hailed the “amazing” Wayne Rooney after his deft backheel ended Manchester United’s eight-match winless run and made the striker the second-highest goal scorer in the club’s history.
City slipped to a narrow defeat at Manchester United as Wayne Rooney’s goal 11 minutes from time settled the match.
Van Gaal has been linked with a number of forwards, including Sadio Mane, Edinson Cavani and Yoshinori Muto, but the 64-year-old was reluctant to say he would spend big on a forward in the window.
His 238th goal for United came at a good time for his manager, whose position has come under scrutiny of late, and the player himself.
Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, top, celebrates with teammate Anthony Martial after scoring du …
But now after giving the home fans something to cheer about, Van Gaal praised both Rooney and Martial for their performances.
Anthony Martial scored his eighth goal of the season when he converted Ashley Young’s cross, but Swansea looked to have stolen a point after Gylfi Sigurdsson looped a header over David de Gea.
Deployed as a wide forward, the 20-year-old Frenchman scored United’s opening goal shortly after half-time, and later provided the assist for Rooney’s victor.
A run of games without victory had increased pressure on Van Gaal, with rumblings he could well be sacked in the near future.
“Also against Chelsea we played very risky because we want to press”. Only Arsenal, and maybe the first half against Stoke and Palace, we didn’t play in that style’. It is a risk to play that.
“We can not allow the gap to grow”, said the United boss, who has lost all three of his matches against Swansea.
“They have to give everything and that’s the most hard aspect of players’ function”.
In fact, Van Gaal believes adding another striker in the window could put more unwarranted pressure on the players he already has.
“The way we’ve played this season, we’re more or less always the dominant team”. The first goal since October would greatly help him and the team as he hopes for a better return in front of goal in the second half of the season.

Swansea, who remain just one place above the relegation zone, did not include England midfielder Jonjo Shelvey in their squad, but caretaker manager Alan Curtis said that the 23-year-old was still part of his plans.
