Manchester United’s troubled season appears to have reached another tipping point as they prepare for an FA Cup quarter-final against in-form West Ham on Sunday.

Five-times European champions Liverpool have hit a patch of good form in recent weeks with Thursday’s victory coming on the back of three successive wins in the Premier League.

Brazil global Roberto Firmino doubled the home side’s lead to give the Reds a 2-0 aggregate lead ahead of their return trip to Old Trafford next Thursday.

Ex-United striker Dion Dublin said the songs were “disgusting” and that “it leaves a bad taste in your mouth” .

Manchester United will invite Slaven Bilic’s high-flying West Ham for a crunch tie at Old Trafford on Sunday.

“We are in a good position now and want to go to the next round but for this we have to play like this again”. The youngster has gone onto score 10 goals in all competitions so far this term and has become one of Louis van Gaal’s most trusted players. “United didn’t need a new philosophy, they had one for 20-odd years that worked”, he added in reference to the 38 major trophies won under Sir Alex Ferguson before he retired in 2013. I wouldn’t necessary say it is revenge.

In the previous round of the FA Cup, Manchester United defeated Shrewsbury 3 – 0 away from home. “I have seen that we did not cope with the high pressure of Liverpool, we could not cope and that created a great atmosphere in the stadium”. Chants about this tragic event, as well as chants about the 1958 Munich air crash, have marred meetings between Liverpool and Manchester United down through the years.

“I see a lot of your colleagues (in the media) are not believing in that but that was already (the case) for a long time and we are still in three competitions”.

” It is possible that we are going out [in Europe] and then it is a very hard situation for everyone, but still we have the chance to win something and you have to believe in that. Indeed, the Hammers are very much in the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League and will also fancy their chances of lifting their fourth FA Cup and their first since 1980.
