Van Gaal Reacts to Mourinho’s Reported Move to Manchester United

“Then I shall be disappointed [if contact has been made]”, he said.

With no sign of public support from the club’s hierarchy, Van Gaal was asked if United should issue a statement backing him. “I agree with this policy of the club”.

“But I don’t know if Manchester United have spoken with Mourinho or not”. It’s good for him, that’s why I let him play.

“My performances in the media are also provocative, but I have had to cope with the criticism from the first time I was a coach”. I don’t bother about that – I think it is good. But I think that, if they want to change, they have to prepare themselves.

The defender has been afforded a run in the first-team under Louis van Gaal amid the injury crisis dogging the Red Devils all season. Swansea lost 1-0 at home to Southampton and is only three points above the bottom three in 16th place.

“I have to say that we are doing great in that respect”, he said. However, players such as Guillermo Varela, Jesse Lingard and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have impressed heavily this season – meaning they are likely to be involved in plenty of the clubs action in the future.

The 19-year-old has performed well since being promoted from the academy and looks set to earn a new deal.
