The Dutchman flew to Holland following Saturday’s home defeat to Southampton, to spend his daughter’s birthday with her.
Woodward convinced the 64-year-old that he still had United’s full support and that approval has convinced Van Gaal to face the battle ahead.
Louis van Gaal is set to hold a discussion with Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward today, in order to decide whether or not he should remain in his position as manager of the club.
Pep Guardiola has a slim chance as he been destined to take over the hot seat of Manchester City.
United’s next match is an FA Cup tie at Derby on Friday, and the Spain worldwide added in his message to the fans: “Football doesn’t stop and now it’s time for the FA Cup and we want to fight for this trophy for you”.
The Old Trafford torment has fuelled reports of meetings with Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho writing a letter to United’s leaders.
Van Gaal agreed United should be playing better.
Dissent is rife in the dressing room as frustrations continue to grow with Van Gaal’s decision-making and tactics, with senior players also sharing the same concerns and voicing their frustrations with their manager.
Monday’s newspapers reported that Van Gaal is on the brink at Old Trafford, and the Dutchman himself admitted for the first time that he has failed to live up to expectations this season.
“I’m very disappointed that I can not reach the expectations of the fans”, he said.

After this past week of Barclays Premier League games, Manchester United have found themselves outside of the top four on the standings this season, once again. “But I think we’ve got to stay calm”. “We are not very lucky with our injuries, that’s a problem”, said Van Gaal, who watched Matteo Darmian hobble off in the second half holding his chest after an aerial collision with Shane Long.
