Van Gaal says he’s laid foundations for success

Louis van Gaal was given the boot barely 48 hours after Manchester United lifted the FA Cup, beating Crystal Palace after going a goal and 10-man down.

Although Van Gaal delivered United’s first trophy since Alex Ferguson retired by winning the FA Cup on Saturday, a fifth-place Premier League finish meant the team missed out on Champions League qualification.

The club will make a statement shortly where they are expected to confirm that the 64-year-old is no longer the team’s manager. Manchester united have never been convincing since Manager Van Gaal took over at the helms.

The Dutchman was shown the way out of the club with one year left on his three-year contract, according to the BBC.

When appointed, Mourinho will be the third manager to take charge at Manchester United following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. “Which manager can do that, what I have done?” he said to the journalists, when he was asked, yet again, about his future at the club. “And I don’t discuss it with my friends of the media, who already sacked me for six months. Louis is Louis and Mourinho is Mourinho, there is no comparison, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t learn from him because I did”, Mourinho said of Van Gaal, adding that he “is honest and pragmatic”.

It’s a busy morning at Manchester United’s training ground, as shortly after van Gaal arrived, so did LMA lawyer, Paul Gilroy.

United have always been reported to be considering appointing Mourinho due to inconsistent results and uninspiring performances under Van Gaal, and a failure to qualify for the Champions League saw speculation intensify.

Unfortunately for Van Gaal, the latest round of media reports regarding his sacking could well turn out to be true.

“I think we all have”.

“You have to set standards and we fell below them this season”.

Reporters also gathered outside Mourinho’s home on Monday, but he informed them he would not be leaving and suggested they should “go home”. Mourinho led the Blues to the Premier League title in the 2014/15 season.
