Van Gaal: Traffic made fans leave early

Manchester United’s players look “bored”, former midfielder Paul Scholes said after watching his old side edge third-tier Sheffield United 1-0 in the FA Cup on Saturday.

“We have reconsidered and we think we have to build him up for the game and not to risk too much by putting him in a match”, said Van Gaal.

Louis van Gaal said a bid to beat the traffic was one of the reasons why fans left Old Trafford early during Saturday’s FA Cup tie.

“There are also matches where I’m very bored or angry because we are not disorganising our opponent’s defence, but that is football”, he explained.

In the beginning of my years as a manager, then I would leave the stadium five minutes before the end.

‘I’m not Sir Alex [Ferguson], as you know.

“You can be very negative, but we are in the next round, won two matches in a very bad period. But we are in the next round”.

United did not register a shot on target against the League One side until the 69th minute and were booed off at the break.

“You have to play more quickly than we did in first half and you have to play with wingers”.

Old Trafford legend Paul Scholes attacked the current crop of Manchester United players for their performance and said he is relieved they have avoided having to go to Bramall Lane for a replay.

Instead, he gamely battled on rather than leave the Reds – who had already used all three substitutes by that point – down to 10 men and, thankfully, Wayne Rooney kept his nerve to fire home an injury-time penalty.

“The fans are frustrated but so are the players”.

United fans, should Van Gaal be axed or wait until the summer?

“They have also been ironic [with their cheering] but that’s also an expression of the fans and that’s good”. I do think I’m more thinking how we have to attack, how we have to improve.

Louis van Gaal has admitted to feeling “very bored” during some of Manchester United’s games this season. We have won two matches in a row.

“I see square pegs in round holes with players in the team. I’m sorry about that, but it is like that”, he added.

“That’s the way this team plays football and he’ll be happy with the 1-0 win”.
