Also yesterday, Fox News announced the surprise departure of Greta Van Susteren from a nighttime lineup that has been one of the most successful and stable in cable news.

Carlson was paid $20 million, according to someone familiar with the confidential settlement who spoke under condition of anonymity.

She went on to refer to the other women who have accused Mr Ailes of sexual harassment since she filed a lawsuit.

Carlson’s case led 21st Century Fox to launch its own investigation, and other women came forward with stories of being sexually harassed by Ailes, including Fox News star Megyn Kelly. My Fox News colleagues have set a high standard for political coverage which I’ll do my best to uphold.

Fox News co-presidents Bill Shine and Jack Abernethy praised Van Susteren in a joint announcement. In the message, Van Susteren said, “Fox has not felt like home to me for a few years”.

Starting Tuesday, she’s being temporarily replaced in her 7 p.m. ET time slot by Fox veteran Brit Hume, at least through the election.

Ms Carlson alleged in a lawsuit that her old boss threatened to destroy her career if she rejected his advances.

Ohio University, which is located in Athens, Ohio, did not immediately respond to CNNMoney’s request for comment.

“We are grateful for Greta’s many contributions over the years and wish her continued success”, the two executives said.

On Twitter, as the rest of the press discusses these two stories, the Fox News account is live blogging a Donald Trump rally.
