Vancouver Canucks acquire Brandon Sutter in trade with Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins are wheeling and dealing again. Shortly after signing forward Eric Fehr, most recently of the Washington Capitals, to a three-year deal, Rutherford shipped Brandon Sutter and a third-round pick in the 2016 National Hockey League Draft to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 2016 second-rounder, forward Nick Bonino and defenseman Adam Clendening.

Sutter, 26, had 21 goals and 33 points in 80 games with the Penguins last season.

Bonino had a quick start for Vancouver, but tailed off and finished with 15 goals on the season. He also played 11 games with the Canucks’ top farm club, the Utica Comets, recording a goal and four assists. He scored three goals and five assists in the playoff run. Bonino’s cap hit for the 2015-16 season is $1.9 and Fehr’s new pact carries an average annual value of $2 million.

The Pittsburgh Penguins continued to reshape their roster with a couple of moves Tuesday morning. He is slated to become an unrestricted free agent after this coming season.

The third-round selection acquired by Vancouver will be the earlier pick of two held by Pittsburgh. The Penguins had previously acquired the Buffalo Sabres’ third-round pick as compensation for the hiring of former head coach Dan Bylsma.
