Vanessa Hudgens dedicates Grease show to father, who died day before

Hudgens performed in the live Fox musical just one day after learning that her father, Greg, had died after battling cancer for the past six months. She kept up with the hand-jivin’ of the professional dancers, and her high energy and contagious smile in the competition were far from mournful. The minor characters were delightful, from Boyz II Men showing up for “Beauty School Dropout” to Ana Gasteyer’s note-perfect Principal McGee to the several actors from the original Grease movie.

Calling the show “one of the most incredible experiences”, the actress shared her enormous happiness to have been a part of it – even in the face of heartbreak.

With this hectic, ambitious and hormonal “Grease”, Fox proved it could up the ante in the new mini-industry of musicals on TV, an industry so far controlled by NBC, with its “The Sound of Music Live!”. The network paid tribute to him at the end of the event.

“It’s a line that I should be able to deliver because it’s so me”, Hough told Entertainment Weekly Radio during an interview, adding that she continuously flubbed Sandy’s meta comment. “I hate cancer with every cell of my being”, she said that time as reported by CNN.

“Tonight, I do the show in his honor”, she tweeted.

With the company of her boyfriend, Austin Butler, “Grease: Live” star Vanessa Hudgens found solace in a yoga class as she mourns the loss of her father, Greg.
