The 27-year-old actress said she would dedicate her performance in Fox’s Grease: Live musical special to her father.

“Grease: Live” was captured by 44 cameras and performed on two massive Warner Bros. soundstages in Burbank, Calif., a three-hour show partially performed outdoors that even shrugged off rain showers.

Vanessa played Rizzo on the live musical alongside Julianne Hough and Aaron Tveit.

The sets and staging were absolutely the best part of the show, proving that a live musical could look as much like a movie as it could just a regular Broadway musical.

On Sunday morning, Vanessa delivered the upsetting news to her fans that her dad had passed away after a long battle with cancer.

Last night FOX presented a systematic, hydromatic, ultramatic live production of GREASE, and we still can’t get enough of it. Check out some of the night’s most memorable performances below! I don’t think it was easy, by any means, to do what the production did on the carbon copy numbers, but there were several places where I wished there had been more confidence in Kail and less certainty that the one that the audience wanted was a movie they’d seen before dozens of times. Pop star Carly Rae Jepsen was winning in her performance as the beauty school dropout Frenchy – here serenaded by Boyz II Men – but was given a new number that added little but extra length to the running time. Can Danny maintain his bad-boy image as the coolest member of the T-Birds, once he and Sandy start going together, and can Sandy remain a good girl after she joins the Pink Ladies? Here’s a cheerleader routine with Sandy to remind you that she’s got some serious gymnastic moves… but it doesn’t serve any other real objective (and she showed off her fancy footwork at the school dance later on).

The father of Actress Vanessa Hudgens has died, according to Hudgens’ own Twitter account. While Grease was created as a piece of 1950s nostalgia, it now also exists, oddly, as a piece of 1970s nostalgia for those who love it, thanks to the era it was made in, so this was a nice nod to that aspect. Also, Keke Palmer played Marty Maraschino, Kether Donohue played Jan, Putzie was played by David Del Rio and Kenickie was played by Carlos PenaVega.

‘Let me tell you, I hate cancer.
