Investigators, who have called the death a homicide, are “still approaching this from every angle” and do not yet know whether Marcotte’s killing was random or targeted, Early said.
A large crowd gathered Wednesday night in Princeton at the Congregational Church on the Common in memory of 27-year-old Vanessa Marcotte, whose body was found Sunday after she had gone out for a jog.
NY resident Vanessa Marcotte had gone out for a jog while visiting her mother in Princeton, Massachusetts for the weekend, but went missing shortly after.
Police have urged residents to take caution after discovering the gruesome remains of Vanessa Marcotte on Sunday night. He asked residents who have seen anything or anyone that seemed suspicious on Sunday to call the MSP tip line at 508-453-7589; MSP detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office at 508-832-9124 or Princeton police at 978-464-2928.
The town’s police chief and Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early, Jr. are telling nearby residents to remain on-guard.
Police wrote on their Facebook page that “no tip is inconsequential or irrelevant”.
A former boss describes Marcotte, a Boston University graduate, as “bright”, “ambitious”, “caring”, and “just a delightful person”. A K-9 team recovered her body later that evening, prosecutors said.
Residents of a MA town have held a vigil for a woman who went for a run near her mother’s home and later was found dead in the woods nearby.
“She was very, very nice”. But in the end, she said, she relies on the police presence in the park. A police search began around 4 p.m. when she didn’t return, and ended in the woods at 8:20 p.m., a half-mile from her mother’s house, where Marcotte was found dead.
Early said he met with Marcotte’s family Tuesday. In a statement Monday, the company said it is “deeply shocked and saddened”.
She was visiting from New York City, and went for a run at about 1 p.m.
Vanessa Marcotte was a Google account manager in NY and a graduate of Boston University.
“Everybody really, really liked her”, said high school classmate Justine Popik.
