Vanessa Williams receives apology from Miss America organization
In 1983, Vanessa Williams was crowned as the first African-American victor of the annual Miss America pageant.

It was here that Miss Georgia, who’d performed an opera selection, “Tu Tu Piccolo Iddio”, with gusto thought she blew it.
Williams accepted the apology, calling it “so unexpected, but so handsome “, as her mother smiled in the audience and those in attendance cheered and applauded.
Cantrell, who hails from Warner Robbins, Georgia, was overcome with emotion when pageant hosts Chris Harrison and Brooke Burke-Charvet announced her as the 2015 queen.
Singer, actress and former Miss America Vanessa Williams received a public apology from the pageant organization that famously ordered her to give up her crown amid a nude photo scandal in 1984. Reporter: The newest miss America crowned Sunday night, upstaged by Vanessa Williams, back for the first time in 32 years as head miss America judge.
Cantrell was asked if Patriots quarterback Tom Brady cheated by using footballs that were improperly deflated. Miss New York, Kira Kazantsev, won last year’s competition. A league-imposed four-game suspension of Brady was recently overturned. “I’m looking forward to spreading a message across America for the Children’s Miracle Network and being an inspiration to young women all across America”.
“If there was a question there, then, yes, I think he cheated”, she said. After her win, she said, “This is so incredible. I have a feeling that was about ratings”, Charles, 52, told Inside Edition on Monday. “If there was any question to be had, he definitely cheated and should have been suspended for that”.
So in the age of social media, even though pageant organizations strip titles for breaking competition rules for things like pregnancy and giving a fake age, both Miss America and Miss US have learned to go with the flow with contestants’ dirty laundry.
The new victor will inherit a lifestyle that could see her log 20,000 miles of travel per month.

Charles also said she believes that the apology may have been about more than just taking Williams title away.
