“I want to stress that given the complicated climate of the world economy, as a forum dedicated to discussing global economic issues, the G-7 should focus on economic and developmental matters of global concern”, Hua said.

The US military has conducted several “freedom of navigation” operations, in which planes or ships pass within a 12-nautical-mile buffer around the Chinese installations in the South China Sea, angering Beijing. Opening the first session of the summit on Thursday, Abe had said the Chinese positions on maritime claims amounted to “unilateral challenges” to the “international systems we have created”.
