Vardy pens new Leicester contract

Next up for Leicester is a trip to Arsenal but Ranieri says his team will continue to play the same way as they have done all season against the Gunners.

Leicester stunned Manchester City 3-1 on Saturday to bolster its bid to become the unlikeliest champion in English football history.

“We know it’s a insane league. I think the first goal was very good for our confidence and then we closed all the space”.

Even with his side 3-0 up and heading for a six-point lead at the top, Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri was still in the technical area, cajoling and berating his side, his enthusiasm and spirit refreshing to watch, just like his team.

With City failing to break down their stubborn defence, Riyad Mahrez doubled the lead with a fine strike early in the second half and Huth sent the visiting fans into dreamland on the hour.

“No complaints. Leicester played better than us”, said the Chilean.

“In the first half we had problems stringing together more than four or five passes”.

Sergio Aguero headed a late consolation for the hosts who learned this week that Pep Guardiola will replace Manuel Pellegrini in charge next season. “I think it’s a bit too soon, team-wise, to be thinking on that level”, Vassell told Omnisport. Leicester’s Thai owners regularly bring Buddhist monks over to bless the players. It’s a fantastic story, though, it really is, and shows hard work, team work and people just going out and working for every inch on the pitch.

Ranieri felt the same way, calling on the supporters to dream, but trying to take the mounting pressure off his side.

The club followed up the victory by announcing Jamie Vardy’s new deal to keep him at King Power Stadium until 2019, and Vassell was full of praise for the striker’s extraordinary form this term.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be fighting to achieve something special”, Vardy, 29, said.

“The spirit is fantastic but I’ve said this from my first moment here in Leicester”. “I don’t believe the bookmakers. I hope this time they are right”.

Liverpool, with goals from Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana, were 2-0 up when numerous home fans left and they at least missed their side’s capitulation as efforts by Adam Johnson and Jermain Defoe, a minute from time, earned Sunderland a point.

“Leicester fans can dream about the title but I’m staying calm,” says Claudio Ranieri
