Vardy to play through pain

Another eventful Premier League weekend saw 30 goals scored in 10 matches, just one of the top-five secure a victory and a certain Leicester City striker break a 12-year record.

‘If I can keep the performances up for the rest of the season, then I am putting myself in with a good shout.

“It could have been [Anthony] Martial or it could have been Rooney because they were not always running behind the central defenders, and I want that”.

“I am really pleased he has done, we can all be very proud about it and I hope he carries on, but the real target this season is 40 points and now we have 11 to go”.

Vardy notched his 14th goal of the campaign with an emphatic angled finish from Christian Fuchs’ lovely through ball in the 24th minute to become the first man in Premier League history to score in as many consecutive matches. Fantastic. A great achievement. “We have to live with that and move on”, he said. For our honour, it’s important; for our project, it’s very important.

That’s what makes the draw with Leicester City so frustrating because Vardy’s goal on the counter-attack was avoidable with better defending, but it’s still a point away to one of the Premier League’s in-form teams, so it could be worse.

Vardy seemed to take the occasion in his stride. “It was just like any other game”. “I won’t be making sure that’s the only thing on my mind”. “There has [been a lot of pressure this week] but obviously if I let it get to me it’s going to affect the performance so I’ve kept my head down and tried to concentrate on a game we could get three points in”.

“I could not play with them”. It would have been letting my team down. We dominated for 90 minutes but we have drawn. They gave me a round of applause.

With the result beyond doubt, Neymar and Suarez went to pains to try and set up their strike partner Messi, who went close three times and struck the upright before he got his goal to round off the rout in stoppage time. If it’s not suitable, I’ll leave it in the wardrobe.
