Center Matt Duchene and Comeau scored for Colorado in regulation.

Things looked bleak for the Avalanche as they took another penalty just seconds after the Datsyuk goal, but Varlamov and the Avs’ penalty kill were able to hold the line. “Hopefully I’ll get the jersey and a couple sticks and something like that, for my son and my family”.

Phaneuf had the Senators on a list of 12 teams he would accept a trade to, something he said was based on the quality of the Ottawa organization and its passionate fans.

“He’s shooting from everywhere”, Detroit’s Luke Glendening said.

Phaneuf was only 24 when he first joined the Leafs, enduring plenty of controversy and losing – and a rotating cast of teammates, coaches and general managers – over 423 games, the last of which came in a 6-1 loss to the Senators on Saturday.

Iginla scored first when he put the puck past Hammond at 9:16 of the opening period. Hammond almost made a spectacular arm save from his stomach on the Iginla shot, but the puck barely made its way across the goal line. Red Wings D Dan DeKeyer played after leaving Detroit’s 3-1 win over the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday midway through the third period because of a bruised right leg. He was hit by a shot from Ottawa D Dion Phaneuf….

MacKinnon scored at 2:26 of the second period and Iginla scored again at 6:54. Patrick Wiercioch was punished for having retained 1:43 and 2:26, McKinnon beat Hammond with a shot into the roof of the net during a four against two. Iginla followed that with a one-timer from the faceoff circle off a pass from Barrie, just 15 seconds after Erik Karlsson was sent off for interference.

The Senators rebounded to score a pair of power-play goals of their own before the second period was done.

Dion Phaneuf famously turned up the dressing room stereo when he first joined the Toronto Maple Leafs six years ago, seizing control of the team’s leadership in the process.

Then with John Mitchell in jail for obstruction, Hoffman has suspense by reducing the gap to one goal, at 19:52 in the second.

“It’s tough being down 3-0 and it’s a hard hole to climb out of, but I thought we did a good job sticking with it, ” Neil said. We sneaked away with two points. “Now we’ve got to build upon this”. Mrazek, who is 10-2-1 in his last 13 games, leads the National Hockey League in save percentage (.934) and goals-against average (1.94) as Detroit tries for its fourth consecutive victory when it hosts the Colorado Avalanche on Friday.

“We weren’t going to push it all”, Blashill said. “But it’s more about our team and tonight’s game, because they’re big points”.

“Weve got to make sure we play with the same type of energy, the same type of skating, win loose puck battles, win loose puck races like we did (Friday) night and continue to play real good defensively, ” Blashill continued.
