He said that his resignation would probably be considered good news by the new owners and that his decision is in his best interest and that of his family.

Hengel came to the Review-Journal in December 2010 after serving as editor and publisher of a Stephens publication, the Pine Bluff Commercial, in Arkansas. On social media, some of the newspaper’s staff have said they are stunned to see Hengel go.
A small CT newspaper had written a story that singled out one of the Nevada judges the Las Vegas reporters had been monitoring: Elizabeth Gonzalez.
Earlier this month, the Las Vegas Review-Journal was purchased under mysterious circumstances.
According to CNNMoney, Hengel did not ask for a buyout but was offered one shortly after the change in ownership. The newspaper report said they were selected by the reporters.
But few American newspaper owners have as vocal an agenda as Adelson, a Republican kingmaker known for handing over tens of millions to political campaigns.
It said Gatehouse Media LLC, a subsidiary of the former owner New Media Investment Group, would continue to run the publication.
Schroeder did not return phone calls and emails from the AP. He declined comment to The New York Times, but told the newspaper the Las Vegas reporters were “stirring up trouble”.
Adelson’s spokesman for the Las Vegas Sands, Ron Reese, declined to comment, as did Gonzalez, who spoke through her executive assistant, and longtime Review-Journal attorney Mark Hinueber. However, it could be said that Mr. Adelson has been in the middle of numerous controversies related to the potential legalization of Internet gambling in the United States and other related matters, which had a negative effect on his media profile. When the buyer’s name wasn’t revealed, the paper’s reporters did some digging and revealed that the Adelson family was behind the deal.
LAS VEGAS (AP) – The editor of the Las Vegas Review-Journal is leaving after a week of turmoil sparked by the sale of Nevada’s largest newspaper to the family of casino magnate and Republican party kingmaker Sheldon Adelson. The family did not disclose the purchase until the newspaper staff, media watchdogs and politicians, including some presidential candidates, demanded to know the identity of the new owners.
