Vehicle dangles off parking garage

Crews will use ropes and pulleys to try to lower a vehicle that is dangling from an elevated garage downtown, Austin fire officials said Friday afternoon.

The 2004 Toyota 4Runner then somehow got caught on one of the high tension wires that had wrapped around one of the vehicle’s wheels.

They say the driver managed to get out of the auto without any injuries. The vehicle was on the ninth floor when the driver tried to park it around 2:30 p.m.

The driver was able to climb out of the vehicle and into the parking garage without injury and is talking with police.

A Fire Department official said the 24-year-old driver was pulling into a space on the ninth floor of the garage, when he was unable to stop the vehicle.

Gasoline is slowly leaking from the vehicle. “It looked pretty risky even though it wasn’t swinging”.

“The driver was still in the driver seat when I came outside”, witness Andrew Miller told CNN affiliate KXAN.

Miller also noted that a delivery person passing in the alley on a bicycle narrowly dodged a horrific outcome when the vehicle came over the edge of the garage. The fire department used ropes and pulleys to very carefully lower the SUV to the ground.
