Ahmad Khan Rahami, a 28-year-old naturalized US citizen from Afghanistan, was arrested after a shootout with police, CNN reported.
Officials in NY are trying to determine who was responsible for an explosion that injured 29 in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood. A pressure cooker device was also found blocks away, but it didn’t explode.
Authorities said the blasts were looking increasingly like an act of terrorism with a foreign connection. The race was cancelled and no one was hurt.
The explosion occurred while a bomb squad was attempting to detonate a suspected device at the station.
It remains unclear whether the suspicious backpack in Elizabeth was connected to any of those events.
Authorities converged on the apartment just before 6 a.m.
There were no reports of injuries.
WABC-TV footage showed a man believed to be 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami being loaded into an ambulance on a stretcher in Linden, New Jersey. Police were called and a bomb-disposing robot was used to disarm them.
Linden Mayor Derek Armstead said the break in the case came late Monday morning, when the owner of a bar reported someone asleep in his doorway. However passengers should expect delays. “You didn’t know if was coming from the subway beneath you, you didn’t know if there were other bombs, you didn’t know where to go”.
No one was injured in the Saturday morning explosion along the route of a running race in Seaside Park, about 60 miles (97 km) south of Manhattan, New Jersey State Police said.
The second device was discovered by state troopers after a bomb exploded in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood on Saturday night. That includes investigating if an incendiary device was planted to cause the blast, a senior official familiar with the investigation told WNBC, our NBC station in NY.
Ryan McCann, of Elizabeth, said that he often ate at the restaurant and recently began seeing Rahami working there more.
New Jersey Transit says service has been suspended between Newark Liberty Airport and Elizabeth.
The New York Police Department says the controlled detonation took place at a police facility in the Bronx on Sunday evening.

New Jersey State Police said that information came from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. CNN reported the explosive devices were found in a in a garbage can outside a local bar, about 500 feet away from the train station. The family was known to police because their business opened all night and there were frequent complaints about noise and vandalism. A message left with the Federal Bureau of Investigation wasn’t immediately returned.
