Venkaiah Naidu Slams Congress For Dragging PM’s Office In National Herald Case

Sharma said Congress is not just “anti-development” but also “anti-poor” as it is holding Parliament “hostage” to hide its corruption due to the “arrogance” of a family. “It is a legal issue and we will handle it legally”, he said.

The Congress, both inside and outside parliament, tried to clarify that the Nation Herald case has nothing to do with the protests in the houses. “It is contempt of court that they think that the judiciary is being run by the BJP”, he claimed.

He further said that the statements of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi show that the duo are trying to arbitrage their political strength in the Parliament.

Expressing “sorrow” over fresh Parliament disruptions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asserted that democracy can not function at the “whims and fancies” of anyone, in a veiled dig at continuing protests by the Congress.

He says he has the tacit support of Modi, and powerful Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has also voiced his approval.

With time running out for the GST Bill and the Congress continuing to disrupt Parliament over the National Herald case, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley slammed the Opposition’s leaders for creating a “chakravyuh” for themselves.

After week-long acrimony over the “National Herald” issue, the Modi government and the opposition Congress on Friday dropped hints for the possibility of reaching an understanding on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill.

It was “surprising” that Congress members disrupted proceedings though their party chief had claimed that she was not disturbed by the court order (summons) on the issue.

The Congress move is aimed as retaliation to block the passage of GST Bill on which the Government is very keen to get it passed in the Rajya Sabha where the Modi Government is in minority.

Denying the Congress charge of political vendetta, he said calling it so was tantamount to a charge against courts.

Asked about government not going for privatisation of PSUs as done during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure, Jaitley said the Government has in past one-and-a-half years raised more than the cumulative disinvestment proceeds of five years between 1999-2004. BJP leader said that the Congress Party has lost its nerve…has lost its balance, and is feeling completely cornered and isolated.
